Hair color help!?

My hair was dark brown. It started getting really gray and the color that I used always came out looking really dark. I went to my beautician and had hi-lights put in it. It has had hilights for about a year now. I think they look too brassy and orangy and I want to go to a pretty brown color. My questions is this: Can I do it myself with Loreal or clariol, etc. or should I go to my beautician. Will it work now that my hair is highlighted?

your hi-lights are old now. go to your stylist ,so she can cover your gray. ask your stylist about the mocha and cherry chocolate color . they are beautiful browns.

Your hair may not turn out the way you want it if you do it yourself. Its always safer to have your stylist do it. We know what we are doing and can help you achieve the look you want. Thats why we have a job.

Not only will you not get the result you are looking for, you are using products that damage your hair a lot more that what stylists use. If you are unhappy with how it is turning out, maybe it is time to get a new stylist! Ask friends/family/coworkers for suggestions. I go to a school in which the salon with the same name charges beau-coup bucks for any services, so we are being trained VERY well. And it is much cheaper at the school. Plus we have our instructors pretty much watching us like hawks, so there is not much of a chance of us messing up. You may want to look for a beauty school like that in your area to save some money .

If you have colored your hair yourself before, you shouldn't have a problem. On the Clairol hair color boxes, there is a toll-free number where you speak to an actual person, and they are very helpful about what color and which of their products will work best for you. One suggestion, though. At Sally Beauty Supply or a similar store, they sell little vials of a product called "drabber". It helps keep out red and brassy tones when you color your hair. You just pour it into the bottle when you mix the color.

yes you can color your hair over your highlights, and i would recommend going to get it done.

You could do it yourself, but it may not turn out the way you want it to. Ask a friend or family member to help you out. If not then just pay the $20-45 to get it done at a salon.

G'luck =)

I would recommend geting your hair done by a licensed cosmetologist. If your highlights were too orange you could have just had them throw a toner on it and get rid of the brassiness. But now you're looking for corrective color, so I would go get it done, otherwise you could end up damaging your hair. If you did it yourself, the highlights would most likely start showing again within a week, or you would have to go a lot darker than you want to cover it all. If you used off-the-shelf color ("box color") let yor stylist know because they contain metallic dyes that could alter your results.
