Is Japanese Perms bad for hair that has been highlighted?

I was really tempted to get my hair Japanese Permed, but I wanted to know if it would totally fry my hair, or discolor the highlights. And I was also wondering about how much it would cost. Thanks!!

Yeah, not really sure what you mean by Japanese perms unless you mean the curls or waves seen in Japanese fashion magazine like ViVi or CanCam, which are just normal perms...

I got one of those perms and they are extremely damaging to the hair. Of course, I had highlights as well and they were fine. The perm lasted me a good 8 months though (it went from curly to wavy, but it's still there).

The thing is, your hair gets really dry unless you take care of it (don't blow dry your hair and use lots of extra moisturizing shampoo and conditioner).

I have no idea how much it will cost however, since my aunt permed my hair for free. She did mention the chemicals used were about $50... but I think it depends on how much you want permed too. I only had the bottom half of my hair permed.. so my hair gradually faded into curls from the top to the bottom.

I'm not exactly sure what a "japanese" perm is, but I would think that any kind of perm would be damaging to your hair. Maybe ask your hair stylist if she thinks it would be okay. Good luck!
